promo for little galleryJamie Hardy’s pyre: a celebration of the beauty in time passing and time awaiting opens Friday, May 6, at the little gallery with a reception from 6:00 to 9:00pm. We asked Jamie 5 questions about her work, and here’s how she responded.

Describe pyre.

It’s is an exploration of the patterns that surround us and leave an imprint on the mind – traces or relics of past experiences that one can no longer tangibly connect to, yet still conjure an emotional effect.

When did you know you were going to be an artist?

In high school, when it was the only voice I had.

Describe your process.

I am constantly capturing video clips on my phone, usually with an idea for what I am working on. I take that footage and create a video loop that I will then project in the space I am displaying. Most of my physical labor is done within the space the week prior to the opening and is very dependent on the structure it is shown within.

Where do you find inspiration?

In the world surrounding me and my personal growth as an individual.

Name the 3 most important things in your studio space.

  • My laptop
  • My projectors
  • My storage of collected material and tools

Pyre runs through May 31. Regular hours at the little gallery, 5917 Maple Street in beautiful downtown Benson, are Wednesday through Friday from 3:00 to 6:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and by appointment. For more information, call 402.681.1901.
