On Dec. 2, 2015, 14 people were murdered and 22 were seriously injured in a mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif. The two shooters were killed in a gun battle with police, bringing the total number of dead to 16.
The event marked the 355th mass shooting to occur in the United States in 2015. (GunViolenceArchive.org defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot.)
We don’t know about you, but we find this number incredibly disturbing. So we asked artist Brian Tait to create an installation that would make people stop, think and perhaps take action. 355: a brian tait + little gallery collaboration is the result.
Days after Tait began work on 355, it happened in Omaha.
On Dec. 6, 2015, two people were killed (including a two-year-old named Kenacia Amerson-Straughn) and three were injured in a mass shooting at an apartment complex near N. 108th Street and Military Road. The Omaha event was one of 18 additional mass shootings to occur in 2015 after the San Bernardino incident.
The final tally for the total number of mass shootings to occur in the United States in 2015: 373.
